THE FAMILY BEHIND A MOM EXPLORES…

Hi! I’m Emily, a mom of 4, and this is my husband, Justin, and our 4 children.

We’re just your average family of 6: Mom, Dad, 2 girls, and 2 boys.

We don’t travel full time or RV around the USA. We have a regular home, our kids go to a regular school, and we are involved in sports and other after-school activities.

And we LOVE to travel!

We show families how to travel as much as possible working around a school schedule.

On this website you’ll find tips for flying with babies, toddlers, and little kids, road trip activities & itineraries, family vacation destinations, family-friendly hotel reviews, and more!

We talk about how to travel on a budget with kids, but we also share our favorite luxury family travel splurges.

ABOUT ME

I’m Emily, the voice behind A Mom Explores.

I started this blog when I was in the trenches of young motherhood. As much as I treasured being present for my kids, I found myself wanting something that made me feel like myself again. Travel and writing have always made me feel alive, so creating a family travel blog as a resource for other parents was the perfect project.

Travel had been a big part of my life ever since I was a teenager. From mission trips to study abroad semesters to trips with my family, I had plenty of experience seeing the world.

Even after our first daughter arrived, we were still able to manage some travel. We visited London, Paris, Nashville, and Guanajuato, Mexico just to name a few.

Then we moved from Minnesota to Florida, and had 3 more kids. It got a lot tougher to afford travel, so we had to stop for a while.

When I started freelance travel writing for TravelPulse, I finally had the motivation to make travel a priority again. I recorded it all on this blog, and now we show other families how to make travel with kids a possibility, too!

Since my husband is a teacher, we typically travel around the normal school schedule, but I’ve also learned to travel solo with kids, too!

We’ve since moved back to the Midwest, and we now call central Wisconsin home. We’re closer to our families, and enjoying experiencing all 4 seasons again.

Now we’ve got 3 kids in elementary school, and our toddler is still at home with me. I’m a stay-at-home mom by day, and a travel blogger and content creator during nap time.

We do weekend trips and prioritize travel during spring break and summer. We just completed our first international trip as a family of 6 to Costa Rica, and have completed some incredible road trips both in the Midwest and around the United States.

BIO

I’ve always had a love for travel, other cultures, and other languages, so I graduated with a degree in Spanish and Education.

I taught high school Spanish for 3 years before resigning to be a stay-at-home mom to our firstborn.

During those early years of motherhood, I took on several part time jobs including teaching Spanish at elementary schools, tutoring kids in Spanish, and finally, writing family travel articles for TravelPulse.

I enjoyed being a freelance travel writer for 2 years. During that time we lived in Florida, so I wrote a lot of Florida content, including Disney World and Universal Orlando content.

During that time, I also began to build my own family travel blog, A Mom Explores.

Once our 4th baby was about to be born, I decided to step back from freelancing to focus on being a mom of 4 (!) and growing my own website.

Now I focus exclusively on A Mom Explores, and have added a successful TikTok account and Instagram account, too!

Our family loves creating short form video content to supplement my comprehensive, evergreen, SEO-focused articles on the blog.
